Newcastle appoints economic advisor

Richard Dawson will lead on inward investment and business attraction for the city council.

Dawson has spent the last three years promoting the city’s business interests through his role as head of investment promotion at NewcastleGateshead Initiative, and prior to that he worked in a number of editorial roles at North East Times, We Are Umi, and the Labour Party, amongst others.

He will be joining Jen Hartley, assistant director of capital investment and growth, and her team.

Speaking about his appointment, Dawson said: “It’s a pivotal time for the city’s development.

“This move wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible opportunities I’ve had over the past three years at NGI.

“Huge thanks to Kelly Gleadow, Sarah Green, Ian Thomas, and the leadership team for believing in me – and to all my amazing colleagues.

“I’ll really miss working with such a brilliant bunch but I’m thrilled to be continuing our collaboration through Invest Newcastle.

“I’m looking forward to reconnecting with city partners over the coming weeks – please do get in touch if you’ve got an investment project that could benefit from the city’s support.”
