Robertson appoints new MD for North East
The construction company has promoted Neil Kennedy from commercial director to regional managing director for the North East.
Having worked at Robertson Construction for more than 15 years, his promotion comes following the retirement of Garry Hope.
Hope had been regional MD of the company since 2016.
In his new role, Kennedy will hold overall responsibility for the North East construction business. This includes the management and overseeing of preconstruction, construction, and aftercare on all projects.
After studying quantity surveying at Northumbria University, Kennedy worked for Mowlem and Carillion, before joining Robertson as a senior quantity surveyor in 2008.
His portfolio of projects ranges across numerous sectors including retail, health, leisure, commercial, and residential, and he has worked on developments such as the Melia hotel at Newcastle Quayside, the Smokehouses residential development of apartments in North Shields, and the refurbishment of Spanish City in Whitley Bay.
Kennedy said: “I’ve worked on some exceptional projects with Robertson over the years and growing up, studying, and working in the area, it’s important to me to see the positive impact the construction of these buildings has had on the North East.”
Brian McQuade, chief operating officer at Robertson Group, said: “Construction North East has been operating for more than 25 years and Neil has been a member of the team for well over half that time playing a vital role in the growth of the region.
“To follow Garry, who was so well known and respected by colleagues and the industry alike, is no mean feat but I know that Neil is absolutely the right person for the role.”
Set up in 1999, Robertson Construction North East is based in Gateshead.
