Completion for Park Hotel reinvention

Project manager Silverstone Building Consultancy has handed over the venue, now called the Tynemouth Castle Inn, to owner the Inn Collection Group.

Silverstone was engaged as project manager and contract administrator for the multimillion pound revamp of the 72-bed venue.

At more than 80 years old, the hotel has been restored to its former glory with an art deco theme, said the group.

Work included a full refurbishment and extension with 20 bedrooms as part of a north wing development, a new pub, kitchen and outdoor terrace space.

Reflecting its seaside setting, a fish and chip shop and ice cream parlour are also new additions, replacing the hotel’s former ballrooms.

The professional team on the project included STP Construction, GSS Architecture, Maughan Reynolds Partnership, Sine Consulting, BXB Interiors, Design North, KLR Planning, Stroma Building Control, Roberts Environmental, Apex Acoustics, iTransport Planning, Castle Keep Surveys, AB Heritage and A Place on Earth.

Phil Bone, director at Silverstone Building Consultancy, said: “We have thoroughly enjoyed working on this iconic, local landmark and the end result is very impressive. We have a long-standing relationship with The Inn Collection Group and it was a pleasure to support the company with the redevelopment of the hotel.

“Overlooking one of the North East’s renowned beaches, The Tynemouth Castle Inn boasts magnificent coastal views as well as being close to Newcastle city centre and the Northumberland coastline.

“This was very much a team effort.”

Louise Stewart, property director at The Inn Collection Group said: “We’re delighted that The Tynemouth Castle Inn is now reopened and is being warmly received by the people of Tynemouth.

“It is a flagship site for us and has been a project that there has been a lot of interest in throughout. The venue has been a key part of the landscape for more than 80 years and the affection in which it is held has been easy to see since we could welcome people back inside.

“We’re looking forward to what should be a very exciting future for this iconic property.”

Silverstone Building Consultancy, a firm of chartered building surveyors and project managers with offices in Leeds, Newcastle and London, has previously managed the restoration of a number of hotels for The Inn Collection Group including The Harrogate Inn, rebranded from the St George Inn, and The Ripon Inn.
