North East Emerging Development Hotspots: Summary and photos

The built environment is a major contributor to global carbon emissions, and refurbishing and retrofitting existing structures is crucial to achieving net zero targets. This roundtable, convened by DeSimone Consulting Engineering, brought together developers, architects, and real estate experts to discuss the pros and cons of breathing new life into a building. 

Enabling faster decisions on small sites and removing obligations for projects of 10-49 homes are among the proposals as the government looks to make good on its 1.5m homes target, with consultation periods now launched.

The 34-acre public park will be the centrepiece of Riverside Sunderland, spanning both sides of the River Wear and 13-acres of riverfront. 

The port operator, which makes 90% of its revenue through its Teesport and Hartlepool sites, appears to be banking on the government’s green agenda to boost its saleability.

The Teesside-based social housing provider will use the money to support a green retrofit project across its property portfolio, which comprises more than 36,000 homes across the North East, Yorkshire, and Humber regions.
